Parents and the Internet

 Youth and the Internet!

Almost entirely all of the youth that I come in contact with use the Internet as one of their primary means of communication. It’s fascinating to go through the different Web. sites such as (Myspace.Com) and blog rings our youth are engaging in and to view the variety of content of those conversations and interests. There’s no doubt about the Internet and its shaping our youth and their perception of the world around them!  If we don’t take seriously the task of forming critical thinking skills in our youth, other influences will.

Try a little experiment. Ask your youth what their favorite Web. Sites or blog rings are. Next go to these sites and view them through your parental perceptions. Ask, what is this site communicating to my child? my youth?…… and how is this influencing them?

Perhaps our ministry here at 1st Presbyterian can brain storm with you the parents of our Church to think strategically and creatively about how we can embrace this relatively new medium in positive ways in the light of parenting in this new multicultural society.

Call me and tell me what you think?
